Adding blueberries to your gut health smoothie is great for your gut microbiome

Gut health smoothie with blueberry and vanilla

This gut health smoothie tastes delicious and it is super good for you and your gut microbiome.

Blueberries, vanilla and spinach have anti-inflammatory properties. This is important, as inflammation is linked to health issues such as diabetes 2, heart disease and rosacea.

Gut health smoothie ingredients

Frozen berries and spinach keep their nutritional value and work great in this recipe.

  • Ca 150 grams frozen blueberries
  • 3 ‘cubes’ frozen spinach
  • 1 banana
  • 3 dl milk, dairy or plant-based; try kefir for added probiotic bacteria!
  • 1 small cup vanilla yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon bourbon vanilla essence
  • Optional:
1 tablespoon UDO oil (contains plant-based omega 3-6-9 oils, which is great for your skin)
Try adding seeds for added nutrients. Seeds are a real nutritional superhero!

  • Pour everything into a blender and give it a good whirl, until smooth
  • Pour into 2-3 glasses, depending on size

PS add a small handful of oats if you want extra fiber.

Note that controlling inflammation is also good for your gut microbiome. Controlling inflammation is beneficial for the gut microbiome because chronic, ongoing inflammation can have negative effects on the balance and diversity of the microbial community in the gut.

The gut microbiome, which consists of trillions of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microbes, plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of the digestive system and influencing overall well-being.

As well as influencing immunity, chronic inflammation can be harmful to your intestinal barrier, the tissue lining your gut. The gut lining acts as a barrier to prevent harmful substances, including bacteria and their byproducts, from entering your bloodstream (where you don’t want them!).

If inflammation damages the gut barrier, it may become more permeable, allowing leaking of bacteria and toxins into your body, which can contribute to inflammation and other health issues.

Enjoy your gut health smoothie!
