Helth benefits of salmon and salmon ceviche

Did you know that inflammation is linked to several diseases such as Diabetes 2 and heart disease? So, eating fatty fish such as salmon is a great part of a gut healthy diet that can help prevent and fight inflammation.

Salmon is a highly nutritious fish that offers several health benefits. Here are three of the main health benefits of consuming salmon:

  1. Rich Source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids:
  • Heart Health: Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA found in salmon, are crucial for heart health. They help reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, decrease triglyceride levels, and reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.
  • Brain Function: Omega-3s are essential for brain health and function, potentially reducing the risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease.
  1. High-Quality Protein:
  • Muscle Maintenance and Growth: Protein is essential for building and repairing tissues, including muscles. Salmon provides high-quality protein, which contains all the essential amino acids necessary for maintaining muscle mass, especially important as we age.
  • Metabolic Health: Protein-rich foods like salmon can help regulate metabolism, support weight loss, and maintain a healthy weight by promoting feelings of fullness and reducing appetite.
  1. Abundance of Vitamins and Minerals:
  • Vitamin D: Salmon is one of the best dietary sources of vitamin D, which is important for bone health, immune function, and overall health. Adequate vitamin D levels can help prevent osteoporosis and other bone-related conditions.
  • B Vitamins: Salmon is rich in B vitamins, including B12, niacin (B3), and B6, which play vital roles in energy production, DNA repair, and maintaining healthy brain and nerve function.
  • Selenium: This mineral is important for antioxidant defense, thyroid function, and immune health. Salmon provides a good amount of selenium, contributing to overall well-being.

Incorporating salmon into your diet can provide these health benefits, contributing to overall health and well-being.
