    Power Smoothie Ingredients

A recent study confirmed the potential anti-inflammatory, mood and brain boosting benefits of 10g fiber per day. This power smoothie recipe offers a whopping:

    You’ll need:

    50 grams of raspberries

    1 small banana

1 serving of Vanilla Protein Powder (I use Applied Nutrition Complete protein, which is low in sugar and rich in enzymes, probiotics, and added vitamins)

1 serving of collagen powder (I use YourBiology Collagen+ Mixed berry but any quality, flavourless collagen will do)

1 serving of Bifido & Fiber from Optibac

    200 ml of kefir milk

    1 tablespoon of chia seeds

    Power Smoothie Additions

Optional: Milk to taste, according to how runny you like your smoothie (I like mine thick, so prefer not to add any milk)

Optional: Tablespoon honey and teaspoon of vanilla, if using plain protein powder. Applied Nutrition has quite a sweet, strong taste of vanilla, so I don’t add anything extra with this brand.

Optional: While chia are rich in omega 3, if you want to boost the omega benefits further, add a tablespoon of Udo oil (I definitely notice skin benefits when I take it regularly)!

*Note, the CFU is based on 30g serving of Applied Nutrition Protein Probiotic powder, plus 2 billion CFU minimum for 200 ml kefir.

    Power Smoothie Method

Blend all the ingredients together until smooth, and enjoy your nutritious and delicious smoothie!

I like using a large wine glass or cocktail glass, garnishing with a sprig of mint or basil, to make it look and feel extra decadent!

Pro Tip: If you’re not keen on chewing chia seeds, soak them in half the kefir overnight to make them super soft

Why You’ll Love This Glow Up Power Smoothie

Apart from the delicious taste, there are many reasons to love this glow up power smoothie!

    Three key benefits include:

Gut Health: A powerful combination of probiotics, prebiotics, and fiber to promote microbiome diversity, SCFA production, and gut lining integrity.

Skin Health: Packed with collagen, antioxidants, and Omega-3s to enhance skin elasticity, hydration, and radiance.

Mood Boost: Probiotics, tryptophan, and Omega-3s work together to support the gut-brain axis and improve emotional well-being.

    Protein powder for gut health

    .

I personally use Applied Nutrition Protein Powder, which is low in sugar, high in vitamins, and has added prebiotics, probiotics, and digestive enzymes. Win win win, in my book!

Gut Health: High-quality protein supports gut lining integrity and overall digestive health.

Skin: Amino acids from protein are essential for collagen production and skin repair.

Mood: Balanced protein intake stabilizes blood sugar, reducing irritability and fatigue.

Skin: Boosts skin elasticity, reduces wrinkles, and supports hydration.

Mood: Improved gut health through collagen may positively affect the gut-brain axis.

I love the berry flavour YourBiology Collagen+, which is unusual for me as I tend to find them too sweet. If you want an additional collagen boost, add it to your water bottle for a refreshing drink you can sip throughout the day!

Optibac for gut health, skin and mood

    Fiber for power smoothie

Gut Health: Combines probiotics and prebiotic fiber to optimize gut microbiome diversity and SCFA production.

Skin: Probiotics reduce systemic inflammation, potentially alleviating skin conditions like acne or eczema.

Mood: Probiotic strains like Bifidobacterium have been linked to improved stress response and mood stability.

If (like me!) you find getting enough daily fiber a challenge, then a supplement like Optibac that you can add to smoothies and other drinks is a simple yet effective solution!
